To Whom It May Concern:
Jim began working for our development group one year ago on the rewrite of our subsystem. Throughout the development life cycle, he demonstrated excellent technical skills. His work ethic and superb communication skills make him an ideal professional consultant.
He added value to the programming effort by teaching structured coding techniques to other members of the group. Jim is a team player and maintained a good working rapport with other group members. He will be an asset to any development organization.
Sincerely,
David Loreti

LETTER OF REFERENCE
Insurance Data Processing, Inc. | Jenkintown, Pennsylvania
August 12, 1982
To Whom It May Concern:
While Jim worked for Insurance Data Processing, he always exceeded my expectations. He was assigned to perform as a project leader and did so with minimal supervision. Jim started the 1401 conversion (rewrite) team, which required him to train two of our employees in structured COBOL. He also interacted very well with other department employees and management.
His programming team turned over eight major structured systems complete with documentation. Jim possesses the wonderful ability to teach structured programming as well as design and write programs, and he left IDP with two highly qualified structured COBOL programmers.
He at all times performed in a very competent and professional manner.
Sincerely,
John R. Fraser

To Whom It May Concern:
Jim Gicas worked for me for the past three years in the capacity of senior programmer/analyst. Jim worked on a large IBM mainframe system using IMS DB/DC and CICS in both development and support modes. The system was developed to support multiple users in several different data centers.
Jim came to the team when development was approximately 50% completed. He participated in the design, coding, and implementation of several major features of the system. Jim learned the system in a very short period and became the main contact point for users in the field. He was responsible for answering technical questions and assisting users in developing new features locally.
Jim has a thorough knowledge of large IBM systems (OS/JCL, TSO/ISPF, utilities, etc.), COBOL, IMS, and CICS. He is well versed in structured techniques and understands unit/system testing concepts well. He is an excellent instructor and taught both system features and technical subjects to fellow team members and clients.
Jim does an outstanding job as a team member. He participates with the team and gets along well with everyone. He provides leadership when necessary and is willing to do whatever tasks are assigned to get the job done. It has been a pleasure working with Jim over the past three years, and I would gladly work with him again in the future.
Sincerely,
Paul J. Maroney

LETTER OF REFERENCE
EDS / AT&T | 555 Union Boulevard, Allentown, Pennsylvania
April 4, 1991
To Whom It May Concern:
Jim Gicas has worked on my project team since October 1990. During that time he functioned as a DB2 programmer, an IMS programmer, a program designer, and a project research assistant. He performed all these tasks in an exceptionally competent manner.
I found Jim to be a great team player who was willing to do whatever was necessary to get the job done. I was particularly impressed by his willingness to share his expertise with team members whose skills were not on a par with his. In addition to these task-related contributions, his ability to relate well with the rest of us was a great asset in helping us accomplish a very ambitious project.
Jim’s technical skills are outstanding. He possesses that rare combination of an in-depth knowledge of computer science and a highly developed ability to apply that knowledge. He not only writes very structured, efficient code; he also completes every project well before his deadline.
Having Jim as part of our team was a joy. He contributed a great deal toward our success, not only because his work was very good, but also because we all enjoyed working with him. I regret only that his association with us was temporary rather than permanent.
Sincerely,
Dolores L. Adams

Duration of Employment: August 25, 1980 to Present
Areas of Utilization: Business Systems Analysis; Business Systems Programming; Systems Documentation
Functions Serviced: Manufacturing, Purchasing, Receiving, Stock Control, Cost Accumulation
Programming Techniques: COBOL, IDS I, Structured Programming, Honeywell JCL and Utilities
Jim did an outstanding job while working in my unit. He performed in a wide variety of situations and used many disciplines to accomplish the tasks assigned to him. He worked equally well as an individual or as a team contributor. He was looked up to by his peers as an expert programmer and was able to demonstrate the value of structured programming by responding quickly and accurately to changes in requirements. His relationship with user organizations was one of proficiency and professionalism.
I would recommend Jim for any area of the disciplines mentioned above.

Re: James A. Gicas
I have known James A. Gicas since we started working together at the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, in early 2009. Jim was professional, dependable, reliable, knowledgeable, and pleasant to work with throughout the more than two years that we worked together.
DLA–New Cumberland is a COBOL/DB2/CICS shop that provides and supports application software for tracking, receiving, warehousing, and distributing (shipping) warfighter-related goods and products for the U.S. Department of Defense. Jim and I were part of an IT support team, consisting of computer specialists and software engineers, responsible for the maintenance, enhancement, and support of DLA’s shipping and transportation software modules.
From my twenty-nine years of mainframe application development, I have a short list of current and former fellow software engineers whose technical knowledge and communication skills qualify them as people with whom I am confident consulting whenever I need application-development assistance or advice. Jim Gicas is on that list. Jim’s efficient programming methodology, combined with his extensive DB2 knowledge and ability to communicate effectively, makes him both an excellent software developer and an excellent source of information. As one example, with some technical DB2 advice from Jim, I simplified a date-intensive program by removing almost thirty calls to an external time/date module and replacing them with a series of more efficient and more easily maintained DB2 date/time functions.
I enjoyed working with Jim and appreciated his software-development ability, technical knowledge, dependability, and ability to communicate effectively. I would welcome the opportunity to work with Jim again and believe that he would be a valued addition to any Information Technology staff.
Sincerely,
Steven P. Simon
